What Is a P60?

A P60 summarises your pay and deductions for the whole tax year with one employer. Employers must give it to anyone still working for them on 5 April, by 31 May.

Tax year 2026/27 · Estimates, not personal tax advice

What it shows

Total pay, Income Tax deducted, NI contributions, student loan repayments and your final tax code. If you changed jobs during the year, pay from the earlier job may be shown separately as 'previous employment'.

When you'll need it

Mortgage and rental applications, claiming a tax refund, filling in a Self Assessment return, and applying for some benefits. Keep P60s for at least four years.

An annual record has a different purpose

Use the year's pay and tax totals when checking an annual estimate. Do not treat one ordinary month's salary multiplied by twelve as a substitute if bonuses or changes occurred during the year.
