About Tax Calculator UK
An independent site that turns published UK tax rules into calculators you can check yourself.
Independent information · Not personal tax advice
Tax Calculator UK exists because most people only find out what a pay rise, a new job or a pension change is worth when the first payslip arrives. We think you should be able to work that out beforehand, in a couple of minutes, without signing up for anything.
What we do
We build calculators for Income Tax, National Insurance, student loans, pensions, self-employment, investments and property, and write guides that explain the rules behind them. Every figure comes from a single configuration for each tax year, taken from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. You can see the full list on our sources page.
What we don't do
- We aren't HMRC and have no connection with it or any government department.
- We don't give personal tax advice. Our results are estimates.
- We don't ask for your name, email or National Insurance number to use a calculator, and the figures you type stay in your browser.
- We don't publish testimonials, ratings or claims we can't back up.
A result you can follow
A take-home figure is more useful when you can see what has been deducted. Our salary calculators separate Income Tax, National Insurance and the pension or loan options you select, rather than leaving you with a single unexplained number. The calculation method sets out the assumptions behind those estimates.
Examples, not personal tax decisions
Our articles connect tax terms to situations such as a pay rise, a changed tax code or a pension contribution. They are starting points for understanding a result, not a substitute for checking your own records. The UK tax glossary explains the vocabulary; our K-code article shows why a tax code can change the calculation.
If something does not add up
A mismatch can come from different assumptions, payroll timing or an error on this website. If you spot a problem, tell us the page and the non-identifying inputs you used, along with the result you expected. Please do not send payslips or personal tax documents. Our editorial policy explains our approach to sources and corrections.
How we're funded
